Taken August 2005 during the 225th anniversary of the Battle of Camden. A special treat for we reenactors to have a mock battle on the actual battlefield site.
After the event, I was shown this picture (as this was taken by my parents who tagged along since I was out on the field at many of the events, practically dying from the heat). I was nearly floor and nearly paled. Being a major researcher of the Major-General de Kalb, and reading about the accounts of that fateful morning... this is EXACTLY how it looked! Cannon fire had caused the haze before the close range combat began.
This has got to be one of my very favorite images of all time! It perfectly captures pre-battle and an actually moment in history.
Again, taken at the battlefield site just north of Camden, South Carolina.

Yes it is. It couldn't have been any more perfect! God really pulled out the stops on this image to make that moment EXACTLY as it was that fateful morning in 1780. T'was a great reenactment, too.

I just can't find words for this! Beyond stunning.
It looks like the spirits of the soldiers who fell are shining down on you!
Not that I'm particularly religous, but its shots like this that make you wonder!
I think they'd be incredibly proud that you were honouring their memory

They were more than shining down upon us, there were there with us! You could feel them all around! The atmosphere on that battlefield that morning was thick with energy. No malice, nor evil. It's was indeed a most incredible morning. And Yes, words do not describe that photo.
Oh, they were honored and humbled. You felt it all. I know it was nothing but a blur and takes all my mental and phystical energy just to attempt to recall that battle reenactment. I doubt I will ever experience something like that again. Camden is MORE than worth it to visit.

Hehehehe... that it was, Dogge. That it was. a most cherished image.
And I have to say.... historically accurate as, again, from all the documentation, this is EXACTLY what it looked like that morning just moments before the battle. This is looking at the Continental Forces.

I am always amazed how some moments of war and battle can look so beautiful. I guess they are usually the calm before the storm though!

Difficult to see it at the time. But once you take an image of the moment... yes, it can be rather poetic and artistic. This picture ended up being just that. And was THE PERFECT window into a moment that happened over 225 years ago. I gained a better understanding of what happened after reading and re-reading the documentation.
